What is U glass?

U glass (or U-shape glass, U channel glass, U profile glass, C glass) is a specialty architectural glass for interior and exterior wall applications, distinguished by its signature linear aesthetic.

The U-shape glass channels are self-supporting, standing as tall as eight meters in a relatively lightweight 7mm or 8mm thickness. They require minimal perimeter framing, creating virtually seamless glass walls that can be hundreds of feet long and can span across elevations.

Advantages:

** Daylighting: Diffuses light & minimizes glare, provide natural light without the loss of privacy

** Great Spans: Glass walls of limitless distances horizontally & heights up to eight meters

** Elegance: Glass-to-glass corners & serpentine curves provide soft, even light distribution

** Versatility: From facades to interior partitions to lighting

** Thermal Performance: U-Value range = 0.49 to 0.19 (minimal heat transfer)

** Acoustic Performance: reaches a sound reduction rating of  STC 43 (better than 4.5″ batt-insulated stud wall)

** Seamless: No vertical metal supports required

** Lightweight: 7mm or 8mm thick channel glass is easy to design with and handle

** Bird-Friendly: Tested, ABC threat factor 25

U glass offers an attractive alternative to traditional opaque building walls and flat architectural glass, creating virtually seamless glass walls of tremendous sizes and proportions. The three-dimensional, self-supporting glass channels can stand as tall as 8 meters in a relatively lightweight 7mm or 8mm glass thickness. U glass requires minimal framing, creating a uniform appearance with clean design lines. Yongyu Glass U glass products are available in many decorative surface textures, hundreds of colors, a range of thermal performance coatings, insulation inserts, and frame systems.

Specifications

The specification of U glass is measured by its width, flange (flange) height, glass thickness, and design length.

Product Ranges

1 Low iron U glass (Ultra clear U glass)

Low iron extra clear U glass is a design product with minimal intrinsic coloring due to raw materials with low iron oxide content during glass production. The color neutrality of this profiled glass is transferred to all the objects, persons, and areas behind the glass – they are perceived in their "natural" coloring despite the ornamental diffusion typical of the product. The look and view through it have a clean, pure charm.

2 Tempered U glass

Thermally toughened U glass is specially designed to satisfy increased safety requirements within common areas of public buildings. This product variant provides greater mechanical strength compared to its annealed version, allowing the creation of large surfaces that are bright while also meeting all safety requirements. In addition, it allows for longer installation lengths compared to standard anneal U glass products. Heat-soaked thermally toughened glass is available upon request.

Yongyu Glass' Tempered Safety U Glass complies with GB15763-2005, EN15683-2013 (By TUV Netherland), ANSI Z97.1-2015(By Intertek USA). It makes our Tempered U glass suitable for use in critical locations where safety glass is required.

Yongyu Glass Colour ceramic frit glass is toughened as a matter of course during the enameling process. Toughening is offered for all U-channel glass surface textures in lengths up to 8 meters. The toughened glass can also be sandblasted for a matt finish or painted.

Yongyu Glass Safety U Glass could be heat soak tested to minimize spontaneous breakages risk from nickel sulfide inclusions. It is specifically designed to test u-channel glass and is subject to regular independent inspection and testing.

3 Low-E coated U glass

The Low-E coating layer has the characteristics of high transmission of visible light and high reflection of mid-and far-infrared rays. It can reduce the heat entering the room in summer and increase the insulation rate in winter to reduce heat loss, thereby reducing air-conditioning operating costs.

4 Sandblasted & Acid-etched U glass

Low iron U glass– gets its soft, velvety, milky look from the defined, sandblasted (or acid-etched) processing of the profiled glass's inner (acid-etched processing both sides) surface. Despite its high level of light permeability, this design product elegantly obscures closer views of all persons and objects on the other side of the glass. They are only perceptible in a shadowy, diffuse manner thanks to the opal effect - contours and colors merge into soft, cloudy patches.

5 Ceramic frit U glass

Thermally toughened and color-coated U glass is a profiled ceramic frit glass available in a wide range of colors that gives architects new design possibilities. As the glass is toughened, it also meets higher safety requirements.

Ceramic frit U glass is achieved by enameling color onto the glass. Colored ceramic frits are fired at 650 degrees Celsius onto the channel's inside surface, providing a colorfast, durable, scratch-resistant finish. This process also tempers the glass, meaning that color can be used anywhere on your project, even in critical zones where safety glass is required. An assortment of RAL colors, including black, are available to offer you the widest choice for customizing your project.
